Dear Parents and Guardians of NDHS Students,
This is a sad time for our school community. Yesterday evening, we learned that Corey Flagler, a Grade 11 student, had died suddenly.
We have made sure that our students and staff have the support they need in this extremely difficult time. Several school board counselors have been with us at the school today. We have set up a quiet room for students to speak with counselors, individually or in small groups, as preferred. The counselors will remain with us as long as they are needed. Please encourage your teenagers to speak with the counselors, for as long or as often as necessary.
We are working with students and staff to identify ways to remember and honour Corey. We do not yet know the funeral arrangements. We have, however, lowered our flag to half-mast, where it will remain until after the funeral.
We have started a memory book, for students to sign and write messages in honour of Corey. Students have also prepared a display in Corey’s memory, in the display case near the front entrance. As a school, we will be sending a floral tribute to Corey’s family.
What a truly difficult year this has been for all of us in the Norwood DHS community. If you have any ideas for appropriate ways to remember Corey and to support his family and friends, please feel free to contact us at the school. I know we all join in offering our most sincere condolences to Corey’s family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
Sincerely,
Mary Lou Steinmann
Principal
